Combined Defence Services Examination (II) 2017
Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) published notification for recruitment for various vacancies in Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers Training Academy through Combined Defence Services Examination (II) 2017 (Including SSC Women) (Non-Technical) Course).
 The candidates can read the details of eligibility and age criteria, details about the exam, and other things in the advertisement. Candidates can fill up the forms online on the official website of UPSC i.e. www.upsc.gov.in
 A CDS Exam will be conducted by the UPSC on 19th November 2017 (Sunday) for admission to the under mentioned courses

 i) Indian Military Academy, Dehradun 145th (DE) Course commencing in July 2018 [including 19 vacancies reserved for NCC 'C' Certificate (Army Wing) holders] - 150 vacancies (approx)
 ii) Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala Course commencing in July 2018 Executive (General Service) (including 06 vacancies reserved for NCC 'C' Certificate holders (Naval Wing) - 45 vacancies (approx)
 ii) Air Force Academy, Hyderabad (Pre-Flying) Training Course commencing in August 2018 i.e. - 32 vacancies (approx)
 iv) Officers Training Academy, Chennai 108th SSC (Men) (NT) Course communing in Nov/December 2018 (Tentative) - 255 vacancies (including 50 vacancies for NCC ‘C’) (approx)
 v) Officers Training Academy, Chennai 22nd SSC Women (Non-Technical) Course commencing Nov/Dec 2018 - 11 vacancies 

Age Limits, Sex & Marital Status:
 

i) For Indian Military Academy (IMA): Unmarried male candidates born not earlier than 02nd July 1994 and not later than 01st July 1999 only are eligible
 ii) For Indian Naval Academy (INA): Unmarried Male candidates born not earlier than 02nd July 1994 and not later than 01st July 1999 only are eligible
 iii) For Air Force Academy (AFA) - Age: 20 to 24 years as on 01st July 2018 i.e. born not earlier than 02nd July 1998 and not later than 01st July 1998 (Upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxable upto 26 yrs. i.e. born not earlier than 02nd July 1992 and not later than 01st July 1998) only are eligible
 Note: Candidate below 25 years of age must be unmarried
 iv) For Officers Training Academy (SSC Course for Men): Male candidates (married or unmarried) born not earlier than 02nd July 1993 and not later than 01st July 1999 only are eligible
v) For Officer Training Academy (SSC Women Non-Technical Course): Unmarried Women, issueless widows who have not remarried and issueless divorces (in possession of divorce documents) who have not remarried are eligible
  They should have been born not earlier than 02nd July 1993 and not later than 01st July 1999 are eligible

Educational Qualification

i) For Indian Military Academy/Officers’ Training Academy: Degree from a recognized university or equivalent
 ii) For Indian Naval Academy: Bachelor of Engineering
 iii) For Air Force Academy: Degree of a recognized University with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level or Bachelor of Engineering
Graduates with first choice as Army/Navy/Air Force are to submit proof of graduation provisional certificate on the date of commencement of the SSB interview at the SSB
 For CDS exam, applicants can be from any stream but for entry to Air Force and Navy, candidates should have studied physics and maths up to Class 12

CDS Examination Pattern

The entrance for Central Defense Services comprises of a Written Exam followed by and Intelligence and Personality Test. The details follow:

General (but important) instructions about written examination
  • The papers in all the subjects will consist of Objective (multiple choice answer) Type questions only.
  • SI units will be used in the papers and Candidates should use only International form of Indian numerals (i.e. 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc.) while answering question papers.
  • Commission have discretion to fix qualifying marks in any or all the subjects of the examination.
  • Candidates are not permitted to use calculators for answering objective type papers (Test Booklets). They should not, therefore, bring the same inside the Examination Hall.

Interview
  • The Union Public Service Commission will declare a qualified list of candidates (based on the written exam).
  • The selected candidates will appear before a Services Selection Board for Intelligence and Personality Test.
  • The total maximum marks for the interview will be 200 for OTA and 300 for IMA, Naval and Air Force.
  • Candidates for the Air Force wing and Naval Aviation will also undergo a Pilot Aptitude Test.
Two Stage Selection Procedure
  • Two stage selection procedure will be based on Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test.
  • All the candidates will be put to stage one test on first day of reporting at Selection Centres.
  • Only those candidates who qualify at stage one will be admitted to the second stage.
  • Those candidates who qualify stage II will be required to submit the original Certificates along with one photocopy each of :
    • Original Matriculation pass certificate or equivalent in support of date of birth
    • Bachelors Degree along with mark sheets in support of educational qualification
  • For final qualification, candidates should secure the minimum qualifying marks separately in (i) Written examination and (ii) SSB test as fixed by the Commission in their discretion.
  • Qualified candidates will then be placed in the final order of merit on the basis of total marks secured by them in the Written examination and the Services Selection Board Tests.
  • The final selection for admission will be made in order of merit depending on the number of vacancies in each wing.
  • The selection will be subject to medical fitness and suitability in all other respects.
